    Rugby secure friendly joy

RUGBY took a Development XI to Rugby School 2nds for a friendly on Sunday and produced a good display to record a three-wicket victory.
With several up and coming youngsters keen to show their continued progress, Rugby started well by winning the toss and electing to bowl.
The experienced Matt Ewer took the new ball and seemed to enjoy the extra pace and bounce on offer whilst Drew Koria at the other end bowled with great confidence and maturity but neither were able to break the School's opening partnership.
The introduction of Raj Chohan’s off spin gave the visitors some control back which left the door open for Rob Davis to blast his way through the middle order with four wickets including a magnificent one handed catch at mid-wicket by another of Rugby’s youngsters Glyn Tap.
The School played positively throughout and were consistently hitting boundaries. However, after useful contributions from the two young leg spinners, Henry Parker and Adam Milsom and then a fiery burst from Ewer, Koria and Chohan finished off the innings with two wickets apiece and the School finished on 176 all out.
Rugby’s chase started slowly with the early loss of Tap, Chris Evans and Ash Koria. At this point the School were on top and sensed a chance to run through the batting order but Ewer and Chohan had other ideas. The latter displaying great patience and maturity, eventually falling for a well compiled 32.
Ewer took his recent good form to the crease and struck the ball magnificently, including some enormous straight sixes.
After some aggressive hitting from Rob Davis, Robards joined Ewer at the crease and it was left to the two senior batsmen to make sure the club finished the game without further loss, resulting in a three-wicket victory. Ewer finished unbeaten on 97.
FUN and sunshine were the order of the day at Rugby Cricket Club's first Kwik Cricket session on Sunday morning where there was an excellent turnout and family atmosphere. Sessions will continue to take place every Sunday between 10.30am and 12pm with ECB recognised coaches.
