LEAMINGTON managed to beat the weather on Saturday but probably wish they had not as they slipped to a six wicket Birmingham League Division One defeat at Shifnal.
The visitors batted first in a rain reduced 25-over clash and totalled 119 for 8 with skipper Rob Williams 49 and David Bailey 37 scoring the lions share of the runs.
Shifnal eased to 120 for 4 with three overs to spare thanks to Anthony Parker 35, Martyn Davies 26 and David Powles 20. Tom Warmer 2-51, Tom Lewis 1-36 and Faisal Khalid 1-30 were the successful bowlers.
The victory lifted Shifnal to the top of the table and Leamington, who visit Bromsgrove this Saturday, are fifth.
Leamington 2nds and 3rds were both frustrated by the weather on Saturday.
A late start meant the 2nds had a 25-over match at home to Shifnal but this was abandoned after four overs with Leamington 31 for 2.
Openers Dave Hawkes and Richard Swann both perished in an ultimately futile pursuit of quick runs, before play was terminated.
The 3rds hosted Alcester & Ragley who were 3 for 0 when rain finally won. The 4ths were also on the sidelines but picked up 25 points as Walmley were unable to honour the fixture.
On Sunday, the under 15s visited Knowle & Dorridge and returned with a hard-fought victory.
Leamington stuttered to 25 for 4 but Harry Philpot remained patient, compiling an excellent 54, while lower order support, especially Will Field 19no, lifted the total to 144 for 9.
Leamington performed better in the field, as K&D struggle to make headway and were dismissed for 85 with Nick Couzens 3-6 and Mark Best 3-9 pick of a strong attack.
