SOLIHULL Barons lost thier promotion play-off 12-4 on aggregate against Trafford Metros but will still take a lot of positives out of a successful English National League season.
Although Trafford finished second from bottom in Division One they still managed to beat all of the other sides in the division at least once including champions Whitley Bay, Nottingham, Sheffield and Coventry.
Saturday's match at Solihull was much closer than the 6-3 scoreline suggested.
It was 1-1 at the end of the first period with Barons ruing missed chances before Metros opened up a 4-2 lead at by the end of the second period.
Barons produced their best performance in the final period and seemed to score a goal but the referee failed to notice the ball hit the back of the net and bounce back out.
The home side continued to press and eventually pulled one back but with their effort to attack and get back into the game they conceded two more goals to make it 6-3.
Over 500 supporters turned up for the home leg and more than 50 hit the road on Sunday to cheer the team on in the second leg.
Barons, missing a couple of senior players, did the best they could but they came up against a Metros team that had been reinforced with a few more players.
Losing the first period 3-1, Barons never gave up but were second best on the night and finished up losing 6-1 and 12-4 overall.
