SOLIHULL Blossomfield's mixed team entertain Sunderland on Sunday (1pm) as they bid to secure a place in the semi-finals of the England Hockey National Championships.
They booked their place in the last eight with victory at Wallingford and will now welcome as much support as possible to their Warwick Road ground to try and keep the fantastic run going.
Both sides showed attacking intent from the start but it was Wallingford who went ahead following a defensive lapse and that proved to be the only goal of the half.
An inspirational team talk paid dividends at the break and Blossomfield came out for the restart with confidence and conviction and were rewarded with the equaliser within five minutes.
With the opposition rocking, Blossomfield further pushed their advantage and dominance by adding a second to take the lead and take control of the tie.
Wallingford, however, were not ready to roll over and against the flow of play a quick break left the Blossomfield goal exposed and it was 2-2 with ten minutes left.
The equaliser did not serve to dissuade Blossomfield whose belief was unshaken and within five minutes of extra time they scored again to retake the lead, a lead they held on to until the final whistle.
There has never been a better time to pick up or partake in hockey currently with subsidised membership, success on the pitch, great facilities and a fantastic social atmosphere the Blossomfield club which welcomes all newcomers, young or old, and the mixed hockey team is just one of the sports on offer.
