BEN Tilsley top scored with 40 as Solihull Municipal got the better of a rain affected Warwickshire League Division Three draw with Ambleside on Saturday.
In a match reduced to 35 overs, Tilsley and Kevin Bissett (19) posted an opening stand of 67 but wickets tumbled at regular intervals thereafter in the chase for batting bonus points and the innings closed on 146-9. Alex Roslyn (21) and Nathan Boyce (15) made the only other notable contributions whilst Phil Read (3-43) and Richard Tilley (4-34), including a hat-trick with the final balls of the innings, were the pick of the bowlers.
Ambleside found runs hard to come by in reply as all of the Municipal bowlers extracted enough movement to trouble the batsmen.
Martin Fadden ran out Dave Jakeman (4) and Roslyn claimed 2-21, aided by catches at first and second slip, to reduce the score to 19-3 after ten overs.
The introduction of Safdar Ali (2-19) and Khalil Ahmed (3-19) saw wickets tumble at regular intervals and it was left to Lloyd Cheshire (4) and Jake Healey (2) to bat out the final seven overs to close on 77-8 and ensure the draw.
Municipal’s 2nds picked up four points from their abandoned fixture at Coventry University.
With all but one other match in the division falling foul of the weather, Municipal are joint leaders alongside Stockingford and this week entertain fourth-placed Hunningham. The 1sts travel to Attleborough who will be seeking to move off the foot of the table.
In the Arden Sunday League, the 2nds were narrowly beaten in a low scoring encounter at home to Corley Colts.
The visitors were dismissed for 122 with Loz McDonald (3-31), Seb Briand, Tom Finnegan, and James Roslyn each picking up two wickets. Corley fought back strongly as only Roslyn (20) scored runs at the top of the order.
Finnegan (15) and Dhiren Dhanda (4) added 19 for the eighth wicket before both were dismissed and the innings closed on 108.
