VICTORY for Earlswood on the final day of the Midland Combination Division One season on Saturday will see them secure the runners-up spot after they overcame Coton Green 5-0 on Saturday.
Their hopes of winning the league were dashed when they lost 4-1 at Stockingford AA on Wednesday, a result which saw the home side take the title.
Earls led 3-0 at half time against Coton Green with Mikey Taylor, Darryl Lewin and Tommy Elder all scoring.
The hosts continued to dominate in the second half and rounded off the victory through Elliot Nash and Elder.
Stockingford got off to the perfect start on Wednesday with an early goal following a fumble from keeper Kenny Sanders who then went on to make a couple of good saves to keep his side in it.
Lee Brown then equalised with a powerful header from Lewin’s free kick but Stockingford responded quickly and regained the lead through Naunton.
Earls’ task got even harder three minutes later when captain Danny Hancock wes sent down after bringing a player down and being adjudged last man.
Naunton made it 3-1 two minutes into the second half and more misery followed for the visitors when Darren Deeming got himself sent off for lashing out.
The scoring was completed in the 56th minute as Stockingford picked up the three points needed to be crowned champions.
THE Reserves secured a fourth place finish in Division Three despite losing 7-1 at Littleton on Saturday.
There was better news on Thursday when they defeated Stratford Town A 4-1.
Joe Robinson scored the only goal of the first half from the penalty spot and 16-year-old Tristam Dunkley doubled the advantage at the start of the second half.
Tom Wilson lobbed the keeper to make it 3-0 and Dunkley saved the best until last with a shot from outside the penalty area.
